At Cânhamor, we don’t just talk about change, we cultivate it. After more than half a century, we are bringing back a crop which was once very important in Portugal. With hundreds of hectares sown, tonnes of hemp produced and thousands of CO2 sequestered, we are redefining regenerative agriculture and sustainable construction. Each number reflects our commitment to a greener and more innovative future.
The choice of seed is extremely important and should be adapted to the region’s climatic features and to the commercial interest.
Hemp is sown in fertile and well drained soils, preferring temperate climates with an abundance of sunlight.
Hemp harvesting usually takes place 3 to 4 months after sowing, when the plants reach their expected maturity.
After harvesting, hemp goes through a maceration process, where the stem is left on the field to be exposed to moisture and microorganisms.
